The pandemic has affected tango. Hard.

But during this crisis I saw something.

I saw something that made me smile.

I saw something that made me proud of being around tango people.

If you are dancing tango, I saw something in you.

When everybody else was worrying about the closing of restaurants and bars, you were asking “When will we hug again?”

When everybody else was running to buy toilet paper, you were asking “When will we be able to express ourselves again through dancing?”

When everybody else was getting depressed, you were asking “How can I dive deeper into the dance I love?”

When everybody else was waiting for the day the hair salons opened, you were asking “When will we move again to the music of a bandoneon, a violin, a piano?”

When everybody else was drifting apart, you were asking “When is the next virtual milonga to come together?”

When businesses around the world were closing, you were asking “How can I help the teachers who gave me so many wonderful moments?”

When everybody else was complaining about the lines outside the supermarkets you were asking “When will we dance again?

What you focus on, defines who you are.

For those, and many other reasons, I am proud of being around tango people.

Thank you for being you, thank you for feeling tango.

P.S. If you feel proud for the tango people around you, share with them this post, let them know.

Hug, and let go,

Dimitris Bronowski
